It seems that the stocks in your long term portfolios would be the ones that you have the most confidence in their fundamentals and so on, but also increases your vulnerability and mindset. For example, if I spot a short term death sentence in stock trends for a stock I still have confidence in long term, I could be shorting a stock that I also own! On the other hand, if I follow my instincts, I will constantly buy and sell those stocks in my long term portfolio, and end up turning it into a second trading portfolio, which isn’t good for anyone. What is your system here?

Ok I live in NJ, I’m 19 and opened an online broker account in november 07. I’ve been studying the markets since I was 16 so I know how to trade. Opened my account with $900 in it, my first trade I bought 800,000 shares of IVOT (penny stock) at around 0.0015 a share and sold a few weeks later for around 0.0033…So I made $1,100 profit but I have a few questions:
1) I’n NJ aproximately what percent of that would I have to pay tax??
2)Since I’m ninteen (and was eighteen in beginning of 07) am i legally allowed to file as an independent??
3)Can I use the free turbotax e-filing for this??

I have traded long for quite some time but am now looking to do more short-term trading and am trying to define my buy (and sell) strategy/criteria. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am in the US and trade mostly US stocks.

I can’t find anyone that trades like me. I need to find some long term traders that buy and hold and accumulate. The only people I have to talk to are people that buy on the dips and sell on the peaks. Is there a message board or something? I just like to ask questions and bounce ideas of of each other.

Im 16 and I want something good to put my money into. Since i am 16 I dont have a lot. I was looking at this because of the low price but it still has a good intrest rate. I understand a lot of the stock market and im intrested in it. Im just trying to get a jump on life and make good choices early on. Any other stocks or options you wanna mention would be great! Why do many traders detrend when trading futures. Doesn’t detrending remove long term trends?

Detrending adjusts for inflation. But then any long term trends are removed right? So do many traders detrend?
I have already seen that site. But I have read that other funds dont detrend. Why?

and some possible day trades. I need one with trailing stop/loss capabilities. Also, I’m trying to figure out if I need stock trading software? I have the specific parameters (Tech A.) mostly, so what is a good software? does any of the online brokers offer a good “real-time” software as well as low trade commissions?
