It seems to me that if a company, such as a pharmaceutical, is about to make an announcement of product testing results, extreme volatility is in the winds. This would probably not work with quarterly earnings though, since that information often leaks. So, for certain announcements, can profits be made by issuing short sell orders if the stock falls to say 0.5% below its price, and buying orders if it rises to 0.5% above its price. These orders would be placed immediately before the announcement, then exited either before the day’s close or held onto for a day or so. Problem is: I am only paper trading right now, which of course cannot simulate real time market buying and selling conditions. Despite this, 0.5% will likely beat the rush. Is this possible?

Zecco free trades…is it 10 free trades with 25 total trade or 25 round-trips?
I just opened a Zecco account last week but I am waiting to learn about some of there procedures before transferring funds in.
My first question is, if I have less than $25,000 equity in the account, I can still be eligible for 10 free trades a month with 25 trades (as advertised). Is each buy and sell considered an individual trade towards the 25 trades, or do they mean 25 round-trips (each stock trade buy/sell counts as 1 trade, not 2 ??)
Also, Does anyone know how long it takes to receive a check if you request before 1 pm.
@ Common Sense …..Thanks for the tip!! (I’m being sarcastic) …What are you talking about exactly?? I have been trading for almost 5 years now and have always used Scottrade, because at first I traded stocks above $10 but in the last 6 months I have moved entirely to sub-penny and mainly sub-.002 stocks. Risky, but fun as h*ll and it actually requires a lot more knowledge of trading than regular stocks unless you want to get burned bad. So thanks for being an idiot and not answering the question. I am moving from scottrade because I of there stupid 1/2% commission. I day-trade these sub-pennies and flip 3 or 4 a day, which ends up being over $100 a day in fees alone= Ridiculous. and i don’t anything special from them at all…I pay for better tools else where and on top of that its not like scottrade is that speedy with putting orders through. I’ve put buy orders at the ask and watched on level 2 about 10 ppl buy at the ask, but not my order and then it ticks up= B.S.
Complete newbie: How do you trade stocks?
First of all, I have absolutely no experience buying or selling stocks. Right now, I only have experience with bank CDs (Certificate of Deposits). I have recently gained interest in buying into the S&P 500, but I do not know how to actually do it. I prefer to do banking and financial business online, so I was wondering if there was any online buy / trade service that I could buy S&P 500 stocks, or other stocks like Apple, and watch the accounts grow.. And are there buy / sell fees? Could I cash out and buy any time I want? Once again, I’m completely new to this, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Active stock traders: Do you trade stocks that are in your long term portfolio?
It seems that the stocks in your long term portfolios would be the ones that you have the most confidence in their fundamentals and so on, but also increases your vulnerability and mindset. For example, if I spot a short term death sentence in stock trends for a stock I still have confidence in long term, I could be shorting a stock that I also own! On the other hand, if I follow my instincts, I will constantly buy and sell those stocks in my long term portfolio, and end up turning it into a second trading portfolio, which isn’t good for anyone. What is your system here?
